Terms and Definitions
FCL is an abbreviation for Full Container Load. The FCL term is used in ocean freight forwarding service to describe full container shipping from one place to another. FCL usually associates one shipper and one consignee. Full container shipping usually brings lower costs than the equivalent size and weight of cargo bulk.
This shipping process involves:
- Picking up an empty freight container at the port
- Loading at the shipper's facility
- Clearing the export customers
- Returning the full container back to the port of departure
- The actual ocean shipping on the vessel to the port of destination
- Clearing customs on the import side
- Delivery of the container to the ultimate consignee
- Return of the empty container back to the port
Break bulk cargo is a general, non-containerized cargo and usually ships as individual pieces because of its over-dimensional size and weight.
Even though most of the sea shipments are containerized, some cargo still needs to be shipped as a break bulk.
Oversized and heavyweight equipment that cannot fit in ocean containers has to be considered break bulk cargo.
LCL Less than Container Load is for customers who don't have enough cargo to fill an entire ocean container.
LCL freight is the right solution for an economical way of shipping your freight if you have less than around 10 cbm.
We have departures every week, so it is a flexible means of transportation as well.
When shipping LCL cargo, the freight must be properly packaged since the boxes will be loaded along with the freight required to fill up a complete container.
As a result, fragile items should always be crated to avoid damage.
Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), also called Dangerous Goods, are substances defined as harmful to people and living organisms.
Shipping Hazardous Materials is a strictly regulated process as far as loading, storage, labeling, and documentation are concerned.
A Dangerous Goods Declaration must always be provided by the shipper of such cargo.
